Summer Projects

Himself and I had a quiet weekend at home.  A working weekend at home.  It was time to get back at it and get some loose ends tied up.  His project and my project, all sort of came together today.

Here's the start of my "old money, overgrown, shade garden".  I certainly have the shade.  In a few years, I'll have the overgrown part, down pat.  I don't know how I'm going to manage or come up with the "old money".  But it might be fun trying!

85 blocks later and I have the borders to hold the mulch in.  For the most part, I really like this but down at the bottom, I have limestone edging instead of this red block border and I may have to change that out later. 

Also, way down here at the bottom, I have rocks and boulders holding back the dirt and the mulch.  It doesn't look as neat and tidy as the rest of it so next spring or summer, that might have to change.  Himself is talking about a running stream in the back yard and when that happens, we'll need those rocks in the stream anyway!

That evergreen back by the chimney is a marked man.  He is a goner.  It is just a matter of time.  Himself made up his mind this weekend that it must come out.  It is stunted, being under that giant maple.  It will not grow properly, in fact it is almost a bonsai.  Well, not really, but definitely stunted.  This picture shows all the angles.  I need to step back a bit and get the whole picture.  You can see some of the Dallas Cowboy trim on the windows and doors.  It is looking sharp!

There!  That's better. It's looking pretty good, isn't it? 

I even got some of the maple leaves and seeds and helicopters cleaned up.  And you can definitely see the blue trim and the angles aren't so sharp, but muted a little.  I think the mailbox needs to be spruced up some way or another and a few other little odds and ends finished but, overall, I think it is shaping up!  Himself still has the highest, roof trim to do.  I think we should rent some scaffolding but he is going to try it with Dana's long, long, tall ladder.  Did I say TALL ladder? 

 I think I may have to make a rule, that I have to be home when he is climbing that big ladder.
