Testing, 1, 2, 3

Went out for a walk today and saw the co-worker out in her car having a cigarette so I went to talk to her. Told her I was testing myself. At first, I couldn't even smell the smoke but after visiting with her a bit (she is thinking about trying this "quit smoke" medicine I'm on) I did smell the smoke and it didn't smell good.

I mentally leaned back on my medicine for support -- but was relieved to know that the smell of the cigarette didn't make me want to go out and buy some.

It is amazing to me the amount of progress you have made in just a little over a month. And how your body is now rejecting something that was such a major part of your life. It's kind of strange to think that I've always known you to smoke. It is all I remember. And now. . .a lifetime later, it's changed. That is pretty huge!

On vacation, after a couple of grumpy afternoons (mine!), I told Himself that maybe when I didn't smoke, I was just a plain old grump! I hope not. Let us hope it was just from being tired and not being off of my "miracle" salve that week!

Erica's right, that was a major part of your life and ours . . . you'd light up before you got in the car and then as soon as you got out of the car . . . don't you feel free? That's amazing--to kick something you've been attached to for so long.

If you've gone this long without one, you can go until your 80!

funny you should ask, do I feel free . . . here is what my "Get Quit" webstite told me today . . . "Try to embrace your freedom, and spread your wings."

And sometimes I do feel free. But once in awhile I am a bit nostalgic for my "old friend". But I am expecting to get over that!

I don't think I realized how powerful and all consuming the smoking was until we flew to San Antonio together a couple of years ago. I remember thinking that I couldn't believe the amount of time and effort that went into planning the next cigarette. Especially since there was no smoking in airports or hotel rooms. Dana is the same way with his chewing except his isn't illegal in airports and hotels. I was sure embarrassed though when we were walking around times square in NYC and my husband is spitting chewing tobacco all over the side walks!!!
