Spring 2010

Our yard is just plain pretty right now.  Pretty, that is, between rains when we can get outside to enjoy it.  This weekend, we have been outside most of the time.  It has been cloudy.  It has been windy and blustery but it only sprinkled on us a couple of time and that, of course, was when we were loading up brush to take to the compost pile!  But we planted and weeded and Himself is painting, pruning, preening, and prettying up.

I like the picket fence and flower box Himself designed, executed and painted.  Now we have planted ivy and geraniums in the flower box so a few warm days of sunshine will make those flowers take off and bloom their hearts out.

This little space has come a long way.  Remember when it used to be fenced and the only things inside that fence were toys, weeds and broken things?  Now it brightens my day every time I stand at the back door and look out or walk outside.  There's always something new blooming or catching my attention.

School Days, Now a Days

School is such an important part of a childhood.  If a little one has good experiences in school the first year or two it will help make the next18 years of their life easier.  Usually. We'll talk "on the average" here.

I visited two schools recently and just plain enjoyed myself.  I learned as much, while visiting my little ones, as they learned!  One thing I learned is that "Things" have changed a bunch since I went to school.  However, I still think that when I retire from the State, I will get a part time job at the school, or volunteer in some capacity.  I believe being around the young children might keep me young.  Might keep my mind from sliding into the Alzheimer's black hole.  I hope anyway!  We'll see.

In the elementary grades, there is so much!  so much . . . and more!

There is so much Interest.
There is much Enthusiasm.
The Curiosity is just off the graph!
The children are friendly and open and accepting.  Welcoming.

Again, we are talking averages.  The "norm".  There are some needy little people in those classrooms too and those needy ones make me want to wrap them up, burrito baby style, and take them home.  And rockabye them.

But these three!  These three are of the first lot!  interested, enthusiastic, curious, friendly, indeed.  They are accepting and welcoming to Nana!   And will be until they turn 8 or 9 or 10, depending on their personalities.  So I've got to visit school while I can, while they will have me!  Soon, they'll be older and more self-conscious and will, when I ask, "Shall I come eat with you?", reply "NO!!!! I mean "no thank you."   Not to name any names!  lol

Gabby, Madeline and Joey, thanks for the visit.

Love you all, Morghan, Jack, Gabby, Maddie, Joey (and Audri and Bella)
whether you let me visit school.
Or not.

Signed, your ol' Nana

May at our house

May Day!  Flowers are showing up everywhere!
We even had a May basket at our front door when we got back from the cabin.
Fun!

The Magician, Himself, is turning these boards

into this!
This little accent picket fence!
Which incidently is just tall enough to block the neighbors to the east
when sitting on our patio!  Good idea!  Good job!

We both are liking our little cottage garden a whole lot.
This year, the 3rd year, everything is really taking off.
The bleeding hearts and bridal wreathe have been so very pretty.
The blue Flax is just starting to show.
The columbine is running rampant, this 3rd year,
and will need to be reined in (gasp!) -- pulled up!
But only part of it and only after it is done blooming.

Stayed tuned!
There more's to come!
